Wednesday 17th August - Day 3

An exciting find – a hammered bronze coin has been identified as a Nuremberg jetton. These were trade tokens originating from Germany and in use during the 1500s. Interestingly this provides more evidence of trade between Germany and the Staveley area during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, along with the imported German stoneware pottery found last year and coming up again this season.

The webcam is up and running – here is a digger’s eye view. No slacking
