Get involved!

Participation in the excavation and post-excavation programme is free and open to all! Over the summer, beginning Sunday June 20th, there will many opportunities for you get involved. See below for a detailed schedule of events.

Simply turn up and we will help you get involved (under 16s will need to be accompanied and supervised by an adult). With our fieldwork locations scheduled to move around the grounds, please see the fieldwork map to find us on any given day.

For anyone interested in long term involvement in the survey, excavation or post-excavation project, please contact us.

The excavation is at the Staveley Town Hall site, situated immediately alongside St John the Baptist Church:

Trench 13: investigating possible civil war earthworks on land to the northwest of the Staveley Hall

July 10th – 11th
Saturday – Sunday 10am – 7pm

Trench 14: investigating geophysical anomalies in the grounds to the east of Staveley Hall

July 17th – August 1st
Saturday – Wednesday 10am – 7pm
Thursday – Friday 10am – 5pm

Trenches 15: extension of trench 8 (2006) to locate the extent of the former East Wing of Staveley Hall
Trenches 16-17: Preliminary investigation trenching in the location of the former 17th century garden(s) to the west of Staveley Hall.
