Dig Diary - Wednesday 23rd August - Day 9

Completed the housework at about 9.50 and hastened down to the dig.  Very keen, looking forward to the dig.  I thought the weather might turn against us, rain was forecast and I expected a fairly short stint, however, the weather stayed fair and we got stuck in.  Our first task was to clear the upper part of trench 11.  I was working in partnership with Dominic who was on the verge of uncovering what appeared to be at this stage a possible tomb like structure, whilst I dealt with the more mundane clearing of the upper part of the trench.

Sadly not a great deal in the way of finds apart from a couple of pieces of animal bone but plugged on anyway.  Still enjoying myself immensely.  Worked steadily and then broke for dinner.

Return to the dig around 2.00pm and recommenced digging.  Frank and Katherine came to join us and passed on their expert advice.  Work proceeded apace and towards the end of the day several finds began to appear including a piece of green glaze splash ware (see general photos), which was quite exciting.
