Dig Diary - Tuesday 22nd August - Day 8

Today was the day for washing bones!  So, I volunteered for the lesser of two evils, talking to you rather than cleaning teeth.

We have had quite a different number of visitors and diggers today, particularly children, accompanied by Mums and Dads.   They all seem so enthusiastic particularly if they find anything within the first 10 minutes.  Some of these are now returning each day.

Weather has been very kind to us today but rain is promised for tomorrow, but they may have got it wrong.  We are trying to save some finds for cleaning tomorrow if it does rain, otherwise all Cynthia’s baking will have disappeared by lunch-time – do people come for the archaeology or the buns!!

Following the drawing and recording of the trench 8, work has now started to remove stones and walls and clearing out of the drains revealing many finds, details to follow from the experts.
