Dig Diary - Wednesday 30th August - Day 15 |
||
Well here we are again folks. No rain and the sun shining and some exciting archaeology to report I think. The medieval ditch feature is being exposed in the main trench and the finds continue to pour out. "I think not". Poor Linda spent all day digging and resulted in one find, however it was a piece of early medieval pot. In the ditch fill of the medieval feature more bone was recovered including a extremley nice jaw bone of a wild boar. This morning a nice thimble was found but having not been here I cannot say where it was found but it is a very nice example. Work continues under the cobbled area and nothing much has materialised as yet but Duncan did have trouble with his sandwich this morning and ate most of his dinner at 11.00am leaving nothing for later - naughty, naughty! Duncan and Dom uncovered the stone area in trench 11 and removed the stone revealing a very nice drainage channel with the capstones being window lintles from somewhere. Further investigation is needed. Let's hope that the forecast of rain tomorrow does not materialise and we can continue working in the medieval ditch feature and uncover the section that we are hoping to expose over the course of the day. If not buckets, sponges and souwesters will be called for and the archaeology will be washed as we dig. Mike
